WILMINGTON, NC – The American Heart Association and New Hanover Regional Medical Center are asking for volunteers to knit or crochet red baby hats to be distributed at NHRMC during the month of February as part of the Little Hats, Big Hearts™ program. This national program aims to raise awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country.
Little Hats, Big Hearts™ started in February 2014 in Chicago, IL collecting 300 hats in the first year. The program has now expanded to more than 40 states. Last year, approximately 1,700 hats were delivered to 41 hospitals across North Carolina.
Donated hats should be made of red, machine washable yarn. Additional specifications and knitting patterns can be found at www.heart.org/littlehatsbighearts.
Hats can be dropped off in the hat box inside the main hospital and women’s and children’s hospital entrances, both located at 2131 S. 17th Street. The deadline to deliver hats is Thursday, January 25. If you have any questions, please contact Lindsey Seltzer at firstname.lastname@example.org or Abby Roetger at email@example.com.
