NHRMC Physician Group – Pediatric Surgery Practice Welcomes Two Pediatric Surgeons Serving Children in Southeastern North Carolina

NHRMC Physician Group – Pediatric Surgery is pleased to announce that Jeffrey J. Dehmer, MD, and Timothy M. Weiner, MD, have joined the practice.

Drs. Dehmer and Weiner specialize in general and thoracic pediatric surgery, including minimally invasive procedures.

“Having access to expert care in a compassionate environment is essential for parents when their child is in need of surgery,“ said NHRMC Director of Children’s Surgery Michael Jaskolka, MD, DDS, FACS. “The addition of Dr. Dehmer and Dr. Weiner gives our community access to highly-trained surgical expertise whether a child is need of treatment for a complicated condition or a routine surgical procedure, without having to travel far from home.”

Dr. Dehmer joins the NHRMC community from Charlotte. He received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Davidson College in Davidson and a doctoral degree in medicine from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He remained in Chapel Hill for residency and served as an administrative chief resident in General Surgery. During that time, he also served as a National Institutes of Health-sponsored research fellow in pediatric surgery. He received his clinical fellowship training in pediatric surgery from Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Following training, he worked as a pediatric surgeon at Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte, part of Carolinas HealthCare System. There he was appointed adjunct assistant professor in the Departments of Surgery and Pediatrics with UNC Chapel Hill.

Dr. Dehmer is board certified in general surgery and pediatric surgery, and is fluent in Spanish. He has moved to Wilmington with his wife Elizabeth and their two children.

Dr. Weiner joins the community from the UNC School of Medicine where he was a professor of surgery and pediatrics and served on the faculty since 1997. He has also had staff appointments at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NHRMC, Wake Medical Center in Raleigh and Duke University in Durham. His training includes a fellowship in pediatric surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, PA, senior and junior residencies in general surgery at UNC Chapel Hill, and a research fellowship at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at UNC Chapel Hill.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH, and a doctoral degree in medicine from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He was commissioned as a Commander in the Navy Reserve Medical Corp in 2011 and served on a Forward Surgical Team in Afghanistan in 2012.

Dr. Weiner is board certified in general surgery and pediatric surgery. He has moved to Wilmington with his wife Meredith Ann Weiner.
