WILMINGTON, NC – New Hanover Regional Medical Center would like to thank the hundreds of physicians, nurses, emergency responders, medical professionals and staff who volunteered during the inaugural 2016 PPD® IRONMAN® North Carolina triathlon presented by NHRMC and the New Hanover Regional Medical Center IRONKIDS® North Carolina Fun Run.
More than 200 NHRMC volunteers provided medical assistance and support for 3,000 registered IRONMAN triathletes and 360 IRONKIDS runners during the weekend’s events.
In all NHRMC provided six ambulances, a medical tent, a field hospital, warming station for swimmers, aid station on the running course, medical bike teams, medics on four-wheel drive vehicles and volunteers along the courses. Athletic training students from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and medical students and residents from Campbell University also joined our teams.
“We are proud to sponsor events that encourage healthy and active lifestyles in our community,” said NHRMC President John Gizdic. “We are grateful to all those who volunteered their time and worked to ensure all the athletes had a successful and safe race.”
New Hanover Regional Medical Center, in its mission to improve the health of the community, sponsored the inaugural New Hanover Regional Medical Center IRONKIDS® North Carolina Fun Run presented by UnitedHealthcare. The event ran in coordination with the 2016 PPD® IRONMAN® North Carolina triathlon presented by NHRMC. The race was Wilmington’s first official IRONMAN event that began at Wrightsville Beach and ended in downtown Wilmington.
