WILMINGTON, NC – The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation would like to thank several local organizations and community leaders for recent fundraising efforts that have resulted in $31,500 directly earmarked for pediatric and cancer patients.
Twelve area Great Clips locations raised $20,500, which was donated to the NHRMC Foundation on Nov. 17 for the NHRMC Cleft Lip and Palate Team to create special care packages for patients. Great Clips raised the money by offering customer coupons, sharing the cleft team’s mission with their clients and inspiring their staff to make a difference.
This generous donation helps the NHRMC Cleft Lip and Palate Team provide specific supplies to the families of cleft lip and/or palate babies, including specially designed bottles and nipples, educational information and a teddy bear with cleft lip stitches to comfort patients who often undergo many surgeries throughout childhood.
In other philanthropic efforts, the first annual Cancer Shucks oyster roast and silent auction raised almost $11,000 for the patient resource fund at NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center. The fund helps support cancer patients and their families with day-to-day needs, such as lawn service, house cleaning, gas cards, grocery cards, personal upkeep and any other needs NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center social workers feel could benefit the patient during their fight against cancer.
More than 200 people attended the Nov. 14 event spearheaded by NHRMC Foundation board member Josh Lambeth and sponsored by Events at Watermark, Carolina Farmin’, Good Hops Brewing, LLC, and Encore Magazine.
“We are honored that these community members dedicated their time and efforts to support the NHRMC Foundation and ultimately the patients and family members here at NHRMC,” said Schorr Davis, interim vice president of development and NHRMC Foundation executive director. “Their work will have a direct impact on helping the people of our community live happier and healthier lives.”
