October 22, 2015

WILMINGTON, NC – New Hanover Regional Medical Center has been named to Orthopedic News Network’s Top 10 list of nationwide hospitals for Medicare hip and knee replacement procedures.

The list, which ranks NHRMC 10th in the United States, reports the top joint replacement hospitals based on 2014 Medical Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) file, which contains data from claims for services provided to beneficiaries admitted to Medicare certified inpatient hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. This is the first time NHRMC has been named to the list.

“The physicians, staff and volunteers at NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital are committed to providing the highest level of care for all of our patients,” said David Oehler, administrator for NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital. “We perform more orthopedic procedures a year than any other hospital in the region, and are so appreciative that our patients find value and quality important and trust us with their care. We are proud to have a record that shows our advanced level of comprehensive care and returns function and quality of life to our patients and their families.”

The NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital is a dedicated hospital with a single focus, and is part of the award-winning New Hanover Regional Medical Center system. NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital is the largest orthopedic program in eastern North Carolina and has been named a Blue Distinction Center+ in knee and hip replacements by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. It has also been recognized as a Healthgrades Five-Star hospital for 12 years in a row for total knee replacement care.

The hospital has 25 board-certified or board-eligible surgeons, many of whom are fellowship trained, and perform more than 2,000 joint replacement and 8,000 orthopedic procedures each year.
