WILMINGTON, NC – New Hanover Regional Medical Center is pleased to welcome Amy Akers, RN, BSN, MBA, ONC, as the Assistant Vice President of Nursing.
Akers will assist Chief Nurse Executive Mary Ellen Bonczek with strategic planning for nursing. Some of Akers’ duties will include implementing performance improvement initiatives, improving patients’ experience, supporting staff development and engagement initiatives, and enhancing NHRMC’s shared governance model, which empowers nurses and staff to have a bigger role in decision making. Most recently, Akers was the director of orthopedics, neurology, pediatrics and rehabilitation at LewisGale Regional Health System in Salem, VA, where she has worked since 1997. At LewisGale, Akers supervised more than 150 employees as the director of multiple departments.
Akers received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Radford University and a master’s degree in business administration from Capella University.
“We are thrilled to have found a candidate with all the skills and experience that Amy offers,” Bonczek said. “She is a great addition to our team and will play a key role in helping us achieve our goals.”
