Dr. Hollis Moye Ray and Dr. Krishn Sharma Begin Seeing Patients at New Hanover Regional Medical Center

November 21, 2013
WILMINGTON – New Hanover Regional Hospitalists, part of the NHRMC Physician Group, is pleased to announce that Hollis Moye Ray, MD, and Krishn Sharma, MD, have recently joined the practice. Hospitalists are specialized physicians who focus on providing care for the hospitalized patient. “Having a team of hospitalists is essential to providing the highest level of care to each patient,” says Clyde Harris, MD, chair, New Hanover Regional Hospitalists – NHRMC Physician Group. “Our hospitalists are specialists in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine, and they focus on the entire patient, not just one aspect of their treatment. It is their mission to ensure each patient receives the highest level of care throughout their hospitalization and is efficiently transitioned from their care back to that of their primary care physician.” Dr. Ray specializes in the treatment of acutely ill, hospitalized patients with the goal of providing excellent inpatient care followed by a smooth transition back to each patient’s primary care physician. Dr. Ray recently completed her Internal Medicine residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after earning her Medical Degree from East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in Greenville and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh. She is board certified in Internal Medicine. “As a hospitalist, I am able to provide on-site, around-the-clock care to hospitalized patients,” says Dr. Ray. “Primary care physicians can follow up on their patient’s tests and procedures in real time to provide the most efficient care during a patient’s stay, and we are able to work together to ensure proper follow-up upon discharge, creating a transition of care that is as smooth and effective as possible.” Dr. Sharma graduated summa cum laude from University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. He earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in Internal Medicine. Dr. Sharma is board certified in Internal Medicine with a special interest in patient education and nurse/physician communication. “The goal of my career is to help reduce suffering. Caring for patients who are acutely or critically ill is the most rewarding experience for me,” says Dr. Sharma. “What I’ve found throughout my training and education is that internal medicine and hospital medicine allow the opportunity to care for all aspects of a patient, and both are constantly changing. That combination is why I enjoy in-hospital patient care and I look forward to providing the highest quality treatment to all of my patients.” “With so much going on around them, patients need a physician to be in their corner throughout their hospital stay. Hospitalists provide a source of consistency to patients who are often facing confusing situations and frightening treatments or surgeries,” adds Dr. Harris. “What the hospitalists provide is more than medical expertise, it’s also peace of mind for the patient, compassion and a drive to make sure each patient receives the best care from the moment they arrive at the hospital through the transition back to their primary physician.” “New Hanover Regional Hospitalists are diverse, well-trained, passionate physicians,” continues Dr. Sharma. “Each of us has chosen to pursue a career in hospital medicine because we want to lessen the suffering of patients with acute illness. The physicians in the group are from local areas and from abroad; they have training in both family medicine and internal medicine. This collective knowledge and experience makes us a strong and cohesive group focused on delivering the highest quality of care for every patient.” For more information about New Hanover Regional Hospitalists, visit their website.
