WILMINGTON – Golf teams and social package tickets are still available for the 21st annual Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament, being held May 3-4 at the Country Club of Landfall. Proceeds benefit the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, which supports special programs and services within the hospital. This year’s tournament will help fund a new family house being built to offer patients and their families a welcoming and comfortable place to stay while they are receiving care at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Construction on the new SECU Family House at NHRMC is scheduled to begin this summer, with an anticipated opening in summer 2014. It will have 24 rooms with private bathrooms, kitchen and dining areas, laundry facilities, indoor and outdoor play areas for children and comfortable shared living spaces. The new SECU Family House at NHRMC will replace the NHRMC Hospitality House which was built in 1986. Funds from the tournament will help furnish some of the rooms in the new house.
“The NHRMC Hospitality House provides a relaxing and affordable place for families to stay while a loved one is receiving care at our hospital,” said Jack Barto, president and chief executive officer at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. “It is also here for patients from outside the area who need ongoing care, but aren’t hospitalized. With construction of the new facility, we will be able to accommodate more patients and families and offer more amenities to help ease the strain of needing medical care away from home.”
The Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament is organized by the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, a nonprofit, fundraising affiliate of New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Earlier tournaments raised money for projects including the construction of the Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital, exercise equipment in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Center and wireless technology at Cape Fear Hospital.
This year’s Coastal Classic festivities include two days of golf on the beautiful Nicklaus Course. Friday evening, May 3, will feature a cocktail party and silent auction at the Country Club of Landfall. Following golf on Saturday, an award ceremony and after-party will be held at the Landfall Hampton Inn & Suites, featuring Nashville recording artists The Mulch Brothers. Social packages are available for those who would like to attend the evening events without the golf. Anyone interested in attending the events should contact Jamie Thompson at 910.815.5042 or click here for more information
