WILMINGTON – New Hanover Regional Medical Center was recently recognized as a top-ranked Community Value Provider by Cleverley + Associates, a leading healthcare financial consulting firm. The Community Value Five-Star Hospital designation means that NHRMC has scored very high in four key areas: high quality care for patients, financial strength and reinvestment, cost of care, and pricing. Only 25% of hospitals in the United States achieve the Five-Star Hospital designation.
“Despite continuing economic uncertainty, New Hanover Regional Medical Center continues to be a leader in quality of care and financial strength,” says Ed Ollie, chief financial officer of New Hanover Regional Medical Center. “We are pleased to be recognized for this achievement and for our ongoing commitment to excellent patient care, regardless of ability to pay.”
Cleverley + Associates released its Community Value Five-Star Hospital rankings as part of the 2011 State of the Hospital Industry publication. Now in its eighth year, this publication reports hospital rankings based on a measurement tool call the Community Value Index (CVI). The CVI is a proprietary index created to offer a measure of the value that a hospital provides to its community.
“The topic of hospital value is increasingly being discussed,” says James Cleverley, principal for Cleverley + Associates. “Issues of pricing and community benefit have been well-publicized but little has been offered to measure the broad scope of value. The CVI measurement tool is a response to this need and it suggests that a hospital provides value to the community when it provides high quality care to patients, maintains a low cost structure, is appropriately reinvesting back into the facility, is financially viable, and has reasonable charges.”
