March 17, 2006
WILMINGTON – Lorelle Feezor, JD, of Chapel Hill, N.C., with 16 years experience in health care’s legal environment, has agreed to serve as the first Vice President of Legal Affairs for New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She will begin May 1.

Ms. Feezor has most recently served as Associate Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer of Duke University Health System in Durham, N.C. As such, she was in charge of a system-wide program for compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, policies, procedures and standards. She also directed privacy programs for the multi-hospital health system, including its flagship, Duke University Hospital.

Ms. Feezor began her career in health law as Assistant General Counsel at University Health System – Eastern Carolina in Greenville, N.C. She served as Risk Manager for the University of California – Davis Health System in Sacramento, Calif., and later as Principal Attorney of the Feezor Group in Washington, N.C.

Her experience includes writing for and editing the “North Carolina Patient and Provider Rights Guide,” a patient care compliance manual for North Carolina health care providers, and editing “Prognosis,” a peer journal published by the Health Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. As an attorney with the firm Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman, based in Research Triangle Park, Ms. Feezor has represented a variety of health care clients, both state-wide and nationally, advising on issues from compliance to bylaws, governance and policy review.

At New Hanover Regional Medical Center, the addition of a new legal affairs position will allow Ms. Feezor to perform similar functions for this health system. She will have ongoing oversight of the medical center’s compliance with laws and regulations, risk management and patient privacy issues and will serve as an internal legal resource.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to again serve the people of eastern North Carolina, and can think of no better organization to be able to do that than New Hanover Health Network,” Ms. Feezor said.

“New Hanover Regional, together with its distinguished medical staff, has demonstrated its commitment to excellence in health care. With the unprecedented planned facility expansion over the next four years, the board, the CEO and the entire management team are preparing for the future health care needs of one of the fastest growing regions in the state. It is this leadership and vision that attracted me to this post,” she said.

Ms. Feezor holds a Juris Doctorate from Campbell University School of Law, a B.S. degree in Business Management from Western Carolina University and a Certificate in Risk Management. She is licensed in North Carolina and California.

“We are excited to welcome Lori,” said Jack Barto, president and CEO of New Hanover Regional Medical Center. “Having a legal representative within the organization who understands health care is going to be a great asset, especially coming during this time of significant growth for the medical center.”
