WILMINGTON – The 6th annual Founders’ Gala hosted by the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, netted more than $112,000 for Neonatal and Pediatric programs at the medical center.
Some 600 guests enjoyed an evening at the Coastline Convention Center, transformed to match the evening’s theme, the Carnivale of Venice. With donated food from more than 20 area restaurants and unique wig sculptures donated for auction by local artists, the evening resulted in enough money to cover the cost of an additional neonatal transport isolette.
Functioning much like a mobile Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, this isolette is used to transport premature babies in distress from the surrounding counties into the medical center’s NICU. The NICU is the only one in Southeastern North Carolina and transporting babies in an environment that simulates being in a NICU means critical levels of care can begin even before reaching the hospital. This is a needed piece of equipment to bring this care more quickly to our smallest patients.
NHRMC is grateful for the support of local businesses and the artists who gave of their talents to help raise money for such a worthwhile cause. Its smallest patients will benefit for years to come by having faster access to this level of health care.
