Support Groups and Programs

Patients and their loved ones often benefit from coming together with others who share their experiences. Below is a list of programs and support groups available at NHRMC or in the community that might help you learn and/or find needed comfort. We do our best to keep this list current, but please check with the specific organization or agency for any changes in meeting times or locations.

Amputees Sharing Knowledge (A.S.K.)

Amputees Sharing Knowledge is a casual gathering designed for people who have, had or are facing an amputation and their loved ones.

When: 2nd Thursday of each month
Time: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Aphasia Conversation Group

Aphasia Conversation Group is a gathering where aphasia patients and their caregivers share thoughts, frustrations and successes with others facing similar challenges. These interactions also offer a chance to gain the confidence and support necessary to move forward with recovery.

Brain Injury Support Group

Coastal Heart Cares

Coastal Heart Cares is a group for those with heart disease and their loved ones and offers educational sessions followed by a Q & A opportunity.

Courage to Change (Al-Anon)

Al‑Anon is a mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. By sharing common experiences and applying the Al-Anon principles, families and friends of alcoholics can bring positive changes to their individual situations, whether or not the alcoholic admits the existence of a drinking problem or seeks help.

When: Every Friday

Empty Cradle

Empty Cradle a support group for parents that have experienced ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, still birth and infant loss.

When: The third Wednesday of each month except December
Time: 6:30 p.m.

LVAD/Advanced CHF Support Group

This support group is for those with congestive heart failure (CHF) and loved ones of those who have had or are undergoing advanced therapy work-up, LVADs, heart transplants and IV intropes.

When: Monthly

Mother's Milk Club

New moms and their little ones are invited to connect with other new moms and get breastfeeding support from lactation counselors.

When: Every Monday
Time: 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) 

NAMI  is a support group for patients and families.

When: Every Wednesday
Time: 3:30-5 p.m.
Where: NHRMC Behavioral Health Hospital

Ostomy Support Group

When: Every third Monday of each month
Time: 6-7:30 p.m.
Where: NHRMC Rehabilitation Hospital Conference Room

Stroke Support Group

Stroke survivors and their caregivers are invited to the Stroke Support Group, held every other month at the NHRMC Rehabilitation Hospital.

When: The 3rd Tuesday of every other month (February, April, June, August, October & December)

Sunshine After Sorrow

Sunshine After Sorrow is a self-help support group designed to empower and bring together mothers facing life after the loss of an adult child or children (age 18 and older).

When:  Third Wednesday of the month

Trauma Survivors Support Group 

Trauma survivors and their loved ones are welcome to share thoughts, concerns, and hopes for the future with others facing similar challenges on the road to recovery.

When:  Fourth Wednesday of the month

Us TOO Prostate Cancer Support Group

The Wilmington Prostate Cancer Support Group hosts monthly sessions to promote its goals of prostate cancer education, support for those affected and advocacy.
