Zimmer Cancer Center
Zimmer Cancer Center is a treatment environment offering the rare combination of clinical and technological sophistication in a centralized, convenient and welcoming setting. The excellence of care is borne out with a distinction attained by just 25 percent of the nation's hospitals: the certification of the Zimmer Cancer Center oncology program at NHRMC as a teaching cancer hospital by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.
The Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation ensures patients have access to comprehensive cancer care of the highest quality. The CoC, a division of the American College of Surgeons, is a “consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care.” (www.facs.org/cancer) Currently, only 25% of all cancer programs in the United States are accredited.
Zimmer Cancer Center oncology specialists also participate in a wide range of national clinical trials, helping push the frontiers of knowledge towards new and promising treatments.
While the care is leading edge, it is also personalized, family-centered and compassionate. At the Zimmer Cancer Center it can be said that quality of life is an important part of the quality of our care. A patient navigator helps guide patients and families through the stages of care. Support services are centralized and always close at hand.
It is unique care environment that attends to the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families-at the same time a group of distinguished specialists focuses their considerable resources and skills on the clinical aspects of treating cancer.
