Help us open the door to comfort
patients and their families

at New Hanover Regional Medical Center

CURRENT CHALLENGES

The NHRMC Hospitality House has only 11 bedrooms and one day room

Rooms are not uniform and share a common thermostat

Dormitory-style bathrooms are shared among guests

Internet connections and televisions are only available in the community living rooms

The small kitchen is closed off from other areas of the home and its size makes it difficult for several families to prepare meals at the same time

Help us provide a "home away from home" to families experiencing medical crisis

Imagine the level of stress and sense of disruption a family must feel during a medical emergency or life-threatening illness.

The quality and sophistication of care at New Hanover Regional Medical Center draws patients and families from throughout southeastern North Carolina. When those families travel here for care, many need a place to stay and rest while their loved one receives treatment.

The existing NHRMC Hospitality House has served this purpose admirably for more than 27 years, but no longer meets the needs of a growing number of patients and families.

An opportunity to help more families

As the region and NHRMC have grown, so has the need for additional Hospitality House services. NHRMC is a regional referral facility, which means that many patients seeking care at New Hanover Regional Medical Center come from outside New Hanover County.

In 2012 more than 850 guests had to be turned away.

We have an opportunity now to build a new and expanded Hospitality House. Not only will it accommodate more guests, but it will do so in ways that will provide comfort and respite while they're here, and will be vital to the healing process.

To help us address these challenges, the State Employee Credit Union (SECU) has committed a $2 million challenge grant to build a new and expanded SECU Family House.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation is committed to meeting the match and securing $2.1 million in additional charitable support.

Your generosity will support that healing as well. Your contribution toward the cost of building our new SECU Family House will be a gift of warmth, welcome and comfort at a difficult and uncertain time for these families.
