Oleander Rehabilitation

Oleander Rehabilitation

While many rehabilitation facilities provide physical therapy services, Oleander Rehabilitation at New Hanover Regional Medical Center offers a full range of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services for children and adults together in one convenient location. Therapists work one-on-one with patients with speech, physical or developmental disabilities, providing specialized care designed to meet each patient’s specific needs and goals.

Outpatient rehabilitation services are offered in three concentrated areas of therapy:

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapy staff is knowledgeable in evaluating and treating a variety of orthopedic and neurological disorders, working with patients to help them achieve relief from pain and restore movement and mobility. Licensed physical therapy staff design an individual program for each patient based on the physician's diagnosis and recommendations and the patient’s needs.

Common conditions treated include help after an injury, long term health care conditions like back pain and arthritis, neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injuries, strokes, and joint problems.

Occupational Therapy

Our licensed occupational therapy staff focuses on helping patients maximize self-reliance with activities of daily living such as self-care, work and leisure with the goal of helping them live as independently as possible. Each patient is evaluated by an occupational therapist per the physician's order and provided with a customized treatment plan to address the patient's goals.

Occupational therapists are trained to address hand rehabilitation, orthopedic conditions and neurological impairments. Common conditions treated include mental and physical impairments, developmental disabilities, after stroke care and other chronic conditions.

Speech Therapy

Our licensed speech therapists address the patient's needs as they relate to the ability to communicate, think, and swallow.  Diagnoses treated include neurological impairments such as stroke and brain injury, Parkinson's disease and post-cancer care.  Speech therapists collaborate with the patient, their family and the physician to develop a customized treatment plan based on each patient’s needs and goals.
