Emergency and Trauma

Kohl's Cares Program

The Emergency Department at New Hanover Regional Medical Center is part of the only Level II Trauma Center for Southeastern North Carolina. With more than 80,000 visits annually, the Emergency Department serves patients with acute injury and illness needs. The severity of these injuries range from minor abrasions/contusions to the critically injuries patient (i.e. falls, motor vehicle crashes, pedestrian struck, sports related and water related injuries) who require full activation of the trauma team. In 2012, the trauma service admitted 1396 patients into the hospital.

The Kohl's Cares partnership continues to be a significant component of the NHRMC Trauma Services Injury Prevention Initiative. Since its inception in 2006, the program has primarily focused on Bike and Helmet Safety and Water Safety in the community. Trauma Services strives to ensure that all injury prevention teaching is provided to the community through annual events through the store and through education in the schools, festivals and health fairs.

Since 2006, Kohl's had granted more that $180,000 to New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, made possible through the company's Kohl's Cares program.
