Community Outreach
If your group or association is interested in health information or free health screenings, let New Hanover Regional Medical Center help. We can take a variety of educational services and screenings to your group. Listed below are a few of the services. Call 910.667.8297 to learn more.
Heart Disease in Women
Heart disease, which can lead to a heart attack, is the leading cause of death for American women. Nearly twice as many women in the United States die of heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases as they do from all forms of cancer.
Symptoms of a heart attack in women can differ from the more widely known symptoms for men. And women are less likely to recognize or acknowledge symptoms and more likely to wait longer to seek help.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center's Heart Center wants to help the community learn more about heart disease and ways to reduce the risk. The NHRMC Foundation's Red Dress Project was established to support that effort through education and screenings for women.
Our community outreach program will come to your women's group of 30 or more and perform free risk assessment screenings for cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure and body mass index. Participants will then talk with a cardiac health care provider about their personal risk and how to manage and reduce it.

Those who qualify for the program are given a voucher which can be used at NHRMC Health & Diagnostic locations. Appointments for mammograms are required. Before an appointment can be made, the woman must first see a doctor for a clinical breast exam and get an order for a mammogram. Vouchers may be used at the following locations.
