Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital at NHRMC joins Together for Kids 09/05/2011 Wilmington, NC – Hospital officials at the Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital at New Hanover Regional Medical Center announced today their membership in Together for Kids, a national alliance of children’s hospitals raising money to improve care for sick and injured children. This alliance builds on NHRMC’s commitment to address the healthcare needs of children so they can get back to being kids by coordinating national fundraising efforts to help purchase needed equipment and resources. The Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital is home to the region’s only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) both equipped to give critically ill children specialized care close to home.
“As a not-for-profit hospital, we count on donor support,” said Aline Lasseter, CFRE, executive director and vice president of development, New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation. “It helps us provide services that save and improve the lives of children in an environment that minimizes the impact illness or injury can have on kids. By joining Together for Kids, we hope to expand the child-focused services and care we are able to provide patients and their families.”
Founded in 2007, Together for Kids is unique from other children’s charities because 100% of funds raised go directly to providing health care for children. The organization is governed by its member hospitals, which include freestanding children’s hospitals, pediatric teaching hospitals at major universities, pediatric departments within hospitals and all Shriners Hospitals for Children.
“In order to help children stay close to home for their care, we must be able to deliver the finest in patient care and remain on the cutting edge of advancing technologies and treatment,” said Fernando Moya, M.D., director of neonatology at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. “We see our membership in Together for Kids as a tremendous opportunity to support our NICU and PICU.”
