Auxiliary Programs
The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Inc. raises money and supports various programs throughout the network. The following are just some of the special projects in existence because of the commitment of the Auxilians:
The Hospital Hospitality House opened its doors on March 3, 1986 to serve patients and families in medical crisis. HHH has provided more than 100,000 overnight accommodations to people from every state and 18 foreign countries. With volunteer help, HHH operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The "House With A Heart" is a safe and comfortable haven during difficult times, because of the support given by so many volunteers.
Kangaroo Kapers
For years, New Hanover Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Inc. has provided an educational program to expectant Mothers and their children entitled Kangaroo Kapers. This FREE program is geared toward children 3 to 8 years of age who are about to become a big brother or big sister.
The Kangaroo Kapers program has been well received with more than 1,100 children having attended in the past 5 years.
When asked if they've "ever been to the hospital and why?", stories flow about mishaps at home, at school, to friends, etc. They understand that the hospital is the place where people come to have things taken care of and made all better. It's where Mommy, who is not sick, will be coming to give birth.
At the end of class, the children enjoy healthy snacks with their new-found friends.
They are proud of themselves ... leaving with head up high, chest out and gift bag in hand . . . they are ready for baby.
YOU MUST REGISTER TO ATTEND Attendance is determined by Mommy's due date, with attendance approximately one month prior to your due date. Please call early in your 2nd trimester as classes fill very quickly. Class is held on a Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. You may register by calling 452-8384.
Volunteers help patients receive messages of support from families and friends through the delivery of e-mails that come through the network's website. Volunteers deliver messages Monday through Friday during regular business hours. The service was funded, in part, by the Auxiliary.cal Center.
Fundraisers
NHRMC Auxiliary, Inc. schedules several fundraisers each year. The Auxiliary uses money raised through these fundraisers to purchase needed equipment and to support various endeavors.
