Junior Volunteers

Applications will be accepted until April 1st for the Summer Program.

Junior Volunteers are an important part of New Hanover Regional Medical Center's healthcare team. Please refer to the Junior Volunteer Program information sheet for additional information.

To become a Junior volunteer at NHRMC

  • Be between the ages of 14-18
  • Commit to 50 hours or at least 6 months of volunteer service.
  • Complete an application packet
  • Attend an interview session with references with Vol. Coordinator. The interview gives us the opportunity to discuss your areas of interests, schedules, verify references and it is a benefit to the applicant and the medical center to provide a meaningful volunteer placement area and commitment to the program
  • Register and attend a volunteer orientation session
  • Complete a one-step TB/PPD Screening
  • Schedule volunteer training and attend dept.-specific training and volunteer position form.
  • Communicate volunteer schedules on a wkly/monthly basis.

Junior volunteers are recognized for accumulating 30 vol hours and every 100 volunteer hours. Teens are also presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and American Hospital Association Lapel Pins.

Educational Opportunities/Education Sessions- Summer months only!

Teens are invited to participate in various education sessions and hands on demonstrations to learn about the various healthcare careers and hospital departments as part of the educational component and their commitment to the Junior Volunteer Program. Teens are required to attend at least three education sessions as part of the summer program.

Some sessions include some of the following topics:

Emergency Medicine, Trauma Services, Nursing, Healthcare Careers, Rehab Services, Healing Arts Program, Airlink, Emergency Management Services, Critical Care Nursing, Radiology, and etc.
