Speakers with First-Hand Experience of Boston Marathon Bombing and JFK Assassination Highlight 25th Trauma Symposium

Wilmington, NC –The Annual Trauma, Emergency and Acute Care Symposium celebrates 25 years of bringing national and international experts to educate Southeastern North Carolina’s medical teams on the latest in health care. This year’s featured speakers span events in our nation’s history starting with President John F. Kennedy’s shooting to the Boston Marathon bombing. The two-day event will be held February 14 and 15 at the Wilmington Convention Center. Organizers expect hundreds of medical providers with an interest in emergency, trauma and acute care to attend. Information on the latest medical care as well as strategies for local communities to prepare for disasters will be presented. Some highlights include: Dante Yeh, MD, Trauma Surgeon Emergency Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, will speak about his experience treating victims of the Boston Marathon bombing and important lessons for trauma centers. Ronald C. Jones, MD, Residency Program Director for General Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, will share his story as one of the surgeons who attempted to save President John F. Kennedy after he was fatally shot in 1963. Sergeant James M. Boteler, Jr., Metropolitan Police Department 3rd District Crime Suppression Team in Washington, D.C., will provide insight on active shooting situations and surviving armed encounters. The 25th Annual Trauma & Emergency Symposium is sponsored by New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) and South East Area Health Education Center (SEAHEC) to advance care through education. The symposium is open to the public with advance registration. It runs February 14 from 7a.m. until 6 p.m. and February 15 from 7a.m. until 5:30 p.m. A full schedule and registration information are available by clicking here.
