New Hanover Regional Medical Center was recognized as a top-ranked Community Value Provider by Cleverley + Associates, a leading healthcare financial consulting firm. The Community Value Five-Star Hospital designation means that NHRMC has scored very high in four key areas: high quality care for patients, financial strength and reinvestment, cost of care, and pricing. Only 25% of hospitals in the United States achieve the Five-Star Hospital designation.

The accreditation was granted following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor of 36 standards of care that represent the full scope of the cancer program. Commendation is possible in seven of the 36 standards of care, and Zimmer Cancer Center demonstrated a commendation level of compliance with all possible standards.  In 2004, VitaLink received the Critical Care Ground Award of Excellence from the Association of Air Medical Services. VitaLink was one of only two programs in the nation to earn the honor for leadership in the field.
