Trauma Criteria
Trauma I Criteria
- Shock
- Respiratory distress
- Airway compromise
- Unresponsiveness (GCS less than 8) with potential for
multiple injuries
- Penetrating wound to head, neck or torso
The Trauma Attending Physician & Senior Surgical Resident
response time is 20 minutes
Trauma II Criteria
- Proximal amputations
- Burns meeting institutional transfer criteria
- Vascular compromise
- Crush to chest or pelvis
- Two or more proximal long bone fractures
- Spinal cord injury with paralysis
- Falls greater than 20 feet
The following may be considered for Trauma II activation at the discretion
of the ED Physician or Trauma Surgeon:
- Extremes of age, (< 5 or > 70)
- Pedestrian struck by motor vehicle
- Motor vehicle crash with
- Ejection (includes motorcycle)
- Rollover
- Speed greater than 40 mph; or
- Death at the scene
ED MD or Senior Surgical Resident calls Trauma II
Senior Surgical Resident response time is 30
minutes
