The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation and local radio station, Sunny 104.5, are gearing up for the Fifth Annual Caring for Kids at NHRMC Radiothon. This year’s event will be held on September 18 and 19. It will feature heartwarming stories from the children and families who have counted on NHRMC’s Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital for their care, as well as interviews with the physicians and providers that care for the kids in our community. The goal will be to raise funds to furnish the children’s play areas in the soon-to-be-constructed SECU Family House at NHRMC, which offers a warm and comforting place for patients and their families to stay while receiving care at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The new SECU Family House at NHRMC will replace the NHRMC Hospitality House which was built in 1986.
“Over the last five years, the Sunny 104.5 Caring for Kids at NHRMC Radiothon has become a much-anticipated event in the community,” said Aline Lasseter, Executive Director of the NHRMC Foundation. “Each year, we have been able to raise the necessary funds to purchase equipment and provide services that impact thousands of children and their families, right here in our community. We are excited to once again partner with Sunny 104.5 to make this our most successful radiothon ever.”
During last year’s two-day, commercial-free broadcast, the community and sponsors donated more than $37,200 toward the purchase of a Multichannel Intraluminal Impedance Diagnostic Equipment or Gastric Reflux Testing equipment to provide the most up-to- date diagnostic tool for children with digestive issues.

“We are so grateful to the community for recognizing the importance of having this equipment here at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for our pediatric gastroenterology patients,” Lasseter said. “Thanks to the generosity of so many donors, we will be able to provide more specialized care for the children in our area.”
