When you join NHRMC's Pharmacy department you have the opportunity to provide direct patient care, preceptor pharmacy students and residents, and contribute to our team-centered quality care at NHRMC.
Our facility features an integrated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) with Epic's Willow pharmacy system and uses the Pyxis distribution system.
We offer professional growth opportunities through a three-tiered pharmacist career ladder. Pharmacists' responsibilities within the ladder include activities centered around distributive, direct patient care, educational, and administrative functions.
We have a decentralized model with clinical satellites:
- Zimmer Cancer Center
- Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital
- Cape Fear Orthopedic Specialty Hospital
Pharmacists at NHRMC work closely with other healthcare providers, participating in rounds and working together to optimize medication regimens using evidence-based standards of care.
We have six PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residents, one PGY1 Community Practice resident, and one PGY2 resident in ambulatory care.
Members of the pharmacy team have the opportunity to learn through continuing education on site which includes formal case presentations and journal clubs. Required education sessions for all pharmacists are completed quarterly.
Pharmacists provide services that maximize the hospital's ability to meet national CMS quality indicators. Other responsibilities include providing educational inservices, developing policies and processes to improve departmental operations, and participation in at least one departmental or hospital committee.
We are supported 1:1 by technicians and additionally by administrative associates.
Three practice councils – the Education Practice Council, Direct Patient Care Practice Council and Operations Practice Council – are the guiding force behind decision making in the pharmacy department. Staff actively participate in the councils and a manager facilitates the decision making process.
After a two-day hospital orientation, pharmacists go through a standardized six-week pharmacy orientation tailored to each newly hired pharmacist's experience, based on the career ladder and their job description.
