Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Advanced pediatric care for infants and children seriously ill or injured

Depending on the severity of a child's illness or injury, he or she may admitted to the Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, or PICU.

The first of its kind in the region, the PICU is home to a wide range of advanced, life-saving treatments and technologies that help restore the health of critically ill children. The unit is staffed around the clock by physicians and registered nurses specially trained in pediatric critical care.

Continuing in the hospital's philosophy of family-centered care, where family and friends are an integral part of the healing process, the PICU boasts generous family space, including all-private rooms with sleep sofas, a family kitchen, living room, and washer and dryer.

Highlights of the PICU:

  • 6 all-private rooms
  • Staffed around the clock by experts in pediatric critical care
  • High 1-to-2 nurse-patient ratio
  • Generous family space, including a lounge and kitchen
  • Designed to meet the size-specific needs of children
