Quality at NHRMC
At New Hanover Regional Medical Center, we strive for the highest standards of excellence in all aspects of care throughout our healthcare system. We work hard to ensure that every patient who comes to us is cared for by a highly skilled and compassionate team using advanced technology and treatment protocols and following carefully outlined safety and quality assurance standards.
The results of NHRMC's focus on delivering consistently high quality care are evident through NHRMC's numerous accreditations and awards as well as our scores in key quality measurements outlined by Medicare and other rating agencies. You can also see the results of our efforts in our continually improving patient satisfaction scores. Through the years, our patients have told us what they like and don't like. We listen and make changes, recognizing that we can always be better and every patient deserves the best we have to offer.

Our highly trained team of physicians, nurses, therapists and support staff make sure you are in the best hands. NHRMC's programs for recruiting and retaining top-level staff help ensure a depth of knowledge and experience throughout the organization. These experienced staff members also mentor and support the development of new staff members so every member of the team is working to the highest standards. This team forges a bond to reach their shared goal: providing the highest level of care with the best possible outcomes. The team's higher level of skills, expertise and efficiency when providing patient care allows you to be at ease with your healthcare choice.
NHRMC continues to refine its knowledge of the most advanced technology, keeping abreast on the latest techniques and procedures and adopting those that have proven results. We know that technology can make the difference in the accuracy of a diagnosis or the precision of a surgery so NHRMC has invested millions of dollars in sophisticated imaging and surgical equipment. NHRMC is also a leader in using information technology that allows clinical staff to more rapidly access test results, check the safety of prescriptions, and analyze a patient's medical history.
Quality and patient safety measures in place at NHRMC mean you can be confident your needs are being met safely and effectively. With safeguards in place including aggressive safe medication administration procedures, infection control measures and proper procedure protocols, NHRMC is committed to promoting superior care.
From Our Patients
Quality care means more than the outcome of a medical procedure or treatment. At New Hanover Regional Medical Center we never lose sight of the patient and their families. We work hard to ensure every person who comes through our doors is treated with respect and compassion. We want you to be comfortable and confident in the care you are receiving so we take time to explain what is happening and what you can expect. We welcome family members to be a part of the healing process. Nurses and managers are never far away and will check in with a patient throughout their stay to answer questions and provide additional help when needed.
Core Measures track a variety of evidence-based, scientifically-researched standards of care which have been shown to result in improved clinical outcomes for patients. CMS (the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services) established the Core Measures in 2000 and began publicly reporting data relating to the Core Measures in 2003.
