New Hanover Regional Medical Center is proud of its charitable mission to provide needed medical care to all members of the community, regardless of ability to pay. The medical center has a generous charity care program and caring professionals available to help guide you through the process of applying for assistance.
If you are concerned about your ability to pay for your medical care, please talk to our financial advisors in the Patient Access Department. They can help you review your health insurance coverage and work out a payment plan for the amount you owe. If you don't have health insurance, they can help guide you through the application process to get benefits from Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability, as well as other federal, state and community benefit programs.
If your hospital bill cannot be paid through insurance, personal assets, government or community assistance programs, then you may request an application for financial assistance. Once your application has been received, your account will be placed on hold for 30 days while it is reviewed.
NHRMC uses the Federal poverty guidelines to determine eligibility for financial assistance. The Federal poverty guidelines are published and updated annually on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website. A patient's income and family size must be at or below 200% of the Federal poverty guidelines to receive financial assistance.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center's Financial Assistance and Charity Care programs are designed to help those who truly need financial assistance while ensuring the medical center is able to meet the continually growing healthcare needs of our community.
