Employee Fitness Center FAQ

If you have questions about The Employee Fitness Center,  here is some information:

Q. How and when can I join the Employee Fitness Center?
A. Enrollment is available through CapsulesLive, NHRMC's intranet.  Click here to access the form.

Q. How much does it cost to join the Fitness Center?
A. It will cost $5/per pay period for an Employee Only membership or $10/per pay period for a Family Membership (this includes you and your eligible dependents).

Q. What hours will the Fitness Center be open?
A. To better accommodate all our employees and their eligible dependents, the Employee Fitness Center will be open and staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Q. Who can join the Employee Fitness Center?
A. Membership is currently open to all NHRMC, NHRMC Physician Group , Pender Memorial Hospital, NHRMC Home Care employees and their eligible dependents. At this time, membership is not open to volunteers, retirees or the general public.

Q. Do I have to be benefit eligible at 0.40 FTE or participate in the medical plan to join the Employee Fitness Center?
A. All active employees of NHRMC, NHRMC Physician Group, Pender Memorial Hospital and NHRMC Home Care are encouraged to enroll and use the Employee Fitness Center. Regardless of your FTE, or whether you have coverage through NHRMC's medical plans, we urge you to take advantage of this benefit.

Q. Who is considered an eligible dependent?
A. Eligible dependents include your legally married spouse and dependent children up to the age 26.

Q. What is the minimum age requirement to use exercise equipment and take fitness classes?
A. To use any exercise equipment or take exercise classes, the member must be at least 15 years old.

Q. What if I want to work out, but I don't have childcare for my minor children?
A. For those parents who want to fit in a workout but might have babysitting needs, childcare will be available at the Employee Fitness Center. These services will be provided to your children only and limited in duration (1-2 hours at a time depending upon the child's age as required by law).  The hours and ages of childcare are still being determined.

Q. Is there a commitment period to join the Employee Fitness Center?
A. There will be an initial three-month commitment period from your participation date in Employee Fitness Center. After the three months, you may drop your membership at any time by contacting HR Benefits or by using this cancellation form on CapsulesLive.

Q. What if I want to add dependents to my membership after I have already signed up?
A. You can move from an Employee-only membership to a Family membership at anytime

Q. What if I would like to work with a personal trainer?
A. Certified personal trainers will be available to work with you one-on-one at an additional cost. This fee will be paid through payroll deductions. For more on training options and pricing, click here.

Q. Will there be a pool or a sauna and/or steam room at the Employee Fitness Center?
A. After extensive exploration, we determined that rebuilding and maintaining a pool or a sauna and/or steam room was just too cost prohibitive at this time. However, some aquatic fitness classes are being offered using the 17th Street campus rehabilitation pool. For class schedule, click here.

Q. What other incidentals are being offered and what are the costs?
A. A variety of bottled beverages and packaged healthy snacks are available for purchase at the Fitness Center. To limit the use of cash, these incidentals may be paid for using debit or credit cards, payroll deductions through badge swipes and Employee Fitness Center declining balance cards.
