Eligibility
-
Employees of NHRMC, NHRMC Physicians Group and Pender Memorial Hospital are eligible to enroll and participate in the NHRMC Employee Fitness Center (EFC).
-
Employees are eligible to participate in the EFC as of their hire date once they have enrolled and their election is updated in our payroll and personnel system, which we estimate to be within three (3) business days.
-
Employees may enroll in the family option and cover their eligible dependents. Employee's eligible dependents include:
-
Your legally married spouse as recognized under federal law
Former spouses are not eligible dependents upon finalization of a divorce or annulment.
-
Your dependent children up to age 26
Dependent children are defined as the subscriber's biological children, stepchildren, legally adopted children, children for whom the employee has assumed a legal obligation for total or partial support in anticipation of adoption of the child, or children specified in a court order or divorce decree. In addition children include extended dependents in the legal custody or legal guardianship of the employee or the employee's spouse. The legal responsibility is demonstrated by a valid court order and the child's official residence with the custodian or guardian.
-
Dependent children must be at least 15 years of age to use the facility, classes and equipment. We will make every attempt to offer specialty classes for children under the age of 15 within a reasonable period of time following the opening of the EFC. Classes will be highlighted and published on the regular schedule and information will be available on CapsulesLive and Caplets.
-
Additionally, we are very pleased to announce an opportunity for 13- and 14-year-old dependents. Effective immediately, dependents aged 13 and 14 can (1) work out with a personal trainer in individual or group sessions, (2) take any of our 63 regularly scheduled classes with a parent and (3) use the track for running or walking.
A parent member must be present at the EFC at all times when a 13 or 14 year old is at the EFC. Dependents aged 13 and 14 cannot use equipment, with the exception of equipment used while working with a personal trainer or during Group Fitness Classes. Children aged 13 and 14 will be issued a special NHRMC Employee Fitness Center wristband when they are added to the employee's family membership, have their finger scanned and sign their release. The wristband must be worn at all times while at the EFC. This will allow our EFC staff to monitor their usage and ensure all members are complying with "the rules."
-
Dependent children age 2 to 12 may use Drop-in Childcare when staff is working, in accordance with the schedule and capacity. Children must be potty trained. See the information sheet entitled Drop-in Childcare for more details.
-
Should an employee terminate his/her employment for any reason, participation for him/herself, or their eligible dependents will end as of their last day worked.
-
Employees who are on an approved medical leave and are benefit eligible (either FMLA or other medical) and their eligible dependents may continue to participate in this employee benefit. Employees on non-benefit eligible leaves will have their participation suspended until such time that they return to work. For further information about how your leave of absence status may impact your ability to participate in the EFC, please contact a member of the Benefits Team at 910.343.7049.
-
Employees are obligated to participate for a minimum 90-day period upon enrollment. Should an employee want to un-enroll in the EFC after a minimum of 90 days, please contact a member of the Benefits Team at 910.343,7049.

We recognize that individuals associated, but not employed by NHRMC, NHRMC Physician's Group and PMH may want to be included in the NHRMC EFC. However, offering this as a true benefit for our employees and their eligible dependents limits this enrollment in accordance with tax law. This means:
The IRS allows us to not charge our employees the excess benefit for the remaining fair market value of the membership over what we actually charge. To avoid the excess being charged to each member, the IRS says the facility must be used by employees, their spouses or dependent children. This eligibility most closely aligns with our benefit plans, too. because our motto for the EFC has been to create a fitness center with "No Barriers," we want to offer this benefit at a price all employees could afford. But, if we increased our scope of membership, we would have to tax our employee members on the difference between what they're paying and the fair market value. This would really impact participation - and what we're trying to achieve.
If IRS tax law changes to allow us to include other individuals who are affiliated and support us, we would be more than happy to include them as members.
