Field Operations
The primary mission of Field Operations is to provide
pre-hospital emergency care to the residents and visitors of our
community. The service operates ten transport units on a daily basis, most
of which are operated 24 hours a day, while several are peak-time units.
Rescue operations are provided through the Special Operations Paramedics, using
the only NC certified medium-duty rescue apparatus in the county. Field
Operations at times provide back-up to the network's critical care transport
service, VitaLink, between the two hospitals in Wilmington,
Patient Care Transport Services
The Patient Care Transport Services, PCTS, serves as the network's primary
means of non-emergency convalescent transport. Staffed with an EMT, and an
EMT-Intermediate, PCTS provides transport for patients that are unable to be
transported by other means. The primary service area of PCTS is
Southeastern NC, but does provide transport into the Piedmont and Coastal Plain
of NC, and into South Carolina.
As a division of NHR-EMS, PCTS provides a back-up to the paramedic ambulances
that handle emergency calls. With this close interaction, this is an
excellent stepping stone into the Field Operations Division for those staff
members who have obtained their Paramedic certification.
