Emergency and Trauma

Critical Care Transport

VitaLink is the ground component of New Hanover Regional Medical Center's critical care transport division.  It is the first and only critical care service in our region, providing transport to patients in Southeastern NC, the Coastal Plain, Piedmont and coastal South Carolina. The service has a fleet of seven trucks and more than 50 employees.  Each crew consists of a paramedic, a registered nurse, and an emergency medical technician for every critical care transport. Our teams transport a broad spectrum of critical care patients ranging from cardiac, trauma, high-risk obstetrics, burns and pediatrics.

AirLink is Southeastern North Carolina's first air ambulance service. The helicopter adds another critical piece to New Hanover Regional Medical Center's growing pre-hospital services. AirLink serves seven counties in Southeastern NC and, in addition to patient transports, helps with missing person search missions, landing zone classes for fire and EMS agencies and public relations events.  There are 30 critical care professionals who staff the air ambulance.

The helicopter is an EC135 Helicopter with a 2-engine system, on-board weather radar, and the ability to reach top speeds of 150 knots, and a range of 250 nautical miles.  The aircraft and pilots are provided by Air Methods Corporation, and the medical crew provided by AirLink. In November, 2005, AirLink was honored with the Air Medical Safety Award in recognition of 2,000 accident-free medical missions.
