Robotic Surgery

Benefits of Robotic Surgery

Because millimeters can make a significant difference in treatment outcome, robotic surgery with its three-dimensional vision system and 360-degree rotating instruments allows surgeons unparalleled precision in tissue removal or repair. Areas in traditional open surgery considered hard to see or get to are fully visible and easily accessed in robotic surgery thanks to highly maneuverable instruments and the ability to zoom in on the operative field at a magnification 10 times greater than the human eye.

"I awoke from the procedure in little pain, with only small band-aids covering the five very small incisions. And I only had to spend one night in the hospital."

"My recovery was easy, and I didn't have
any pain. I was back walking and driving
in no time."

Lou Greer, NHRMC Robotic Surgery Patient

Perhaps the most tangible benefit of robotic surgery for patients is incision size – in most cases, no bigger than the size of a dime, or 1-2 centimeters. In traditional open surgery, incisions may be as long as 10 inches.

Other patient benefits of robotic surgery can include:

  • Significantly less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Minimal scaring
  • Shorter recovery time
  • Reduced risk of infection
  • Faster return to normal daily activities

Of additional benefit to all patients during treatment is NHRMC's dedicated robotic surgery operating room space, housed in the hospital's 186,500-square-foot Surgical Pavilion. Here, surgeons have ample space in which to work with all equipment nearby and at the ready. Click here to learn more about NHRMC's Surgical Pavilion.
