President and CEO
Jack Barto Since his arrival at New Hanover
Regional Medical Center, Jack Barto has led a remarkable change in how health care services are delivered
in this community. Today, under his leadership, the emphasis is on a culture of
Service Excellence, which means the primary focus is on patient satisfaction,
retaining and rewarding valuable staff and operating the medical center in an
efficient and fiscally responsible manner.
Jack partnered with the Board of Trustees to
develop a strategic plan for the region's next generation of health care. The
plan, to be executed over the next four years, will add surgical space, create
all private patient rooms, allow easy access to outpatient services and build a
standalone women's and children's center. This plan will enhance New Hanover
Regional's role as the region's specialty health care provider and as
corporate neighbor that generates more than $1 billion annually to the New
Hanover County economy.
Jack has more than 25 years of health care
administration experience. Before beginning at New Hanover Regional, he served
as president and CEO at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora, Ill., part of a
seven-hospital system.
He is a Pittsburgh native and remains loyal to its
professional sports teams. He graduated from Notre Dame University in 1976 with
a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies and Communication, and received his
Master's in Health Administration from George Washington University in 1979.
