Trauma Team
The trauma team is a group of healthcare professionals organized to provide care to the trauma patient in a coordinated and timely manner. This multidisciplinary team approach to the care of trauma patients is critical to the success of the trauma program. Through collaboration, every member of the trauma team supports an important component of trauma care that contributes to successful patient outcomes.

Thomas V. Clancy, MD, Medical Director: The role of the Medical Director is to organize and manage the overall physician/surgeon component of the trauma service and to pursue the development of the trauma center in terms of quality of care, volume, scope of services and cost-effectiveness. Jacqueline Rowland, PA, Trauma Physician Assistant: The role of the PA is to be responsible for providing clinical expertise to surgical and trauma patients and their families in an ongoing basis. Bernie Medeiros, RN, BS, EMT, Trauma Program Manager: The role of the Program Manager is to collaborate with the Medical Director on all aspects of the Trauma Program to include all services/systems required for an organized multidisciplinary team approach to the care of the critically injured trauma patient through the continuum of care. B.J. Carbonell, RN, SERAC Manager: The role of the SERAC coordinator is to organize outreach efforts to improve trauma care in the southeastern region of North Carolina .. The SERAC Coordinator collaborates with area hospitals, EMS, and community services to provide education to health care providers, maintain state trauma care requirements, and increase injury prevention awareness among the public. Jane McNichols, RN, Trauma Coordinator: The coordinator develops, implements, and manages the performance improvement program for Trauma Services. She coordinates the day-to-day clinical activities of the Trauma Services and serves as primary contact between Trauma Services and other clinical areas throughout New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Tina D'Amico Poole, MPH, Injury Prevention Coordinator: The role of the Injury Prevention Coordinator is to develop and present injury prevention programs to the youth and adults of our community. The Injury Prevention Coordinator collaborates with other regional injury prevention professionals to further the mission of injury prevention and safety and assists in the development of a cadre of volunteers to assist with community programs. She also coordinated 4 annual events: Kohl's Cares for Kids Water Safety Event, Kohl's Cares for Kids Back to School Safety Event, Baby Boomers and Beyond Safety and Prevention Expo, and WECT/NHRMC Child Passenger Safety Check. Tina writes monthly articles for the Wilmington Parent. She is also the NC State Director for Think First Foundation and a National Certified Child Passenger Safety Event. TPoole@NHRMC.org
Deb Stafford, Trauma Registrar: The role of the Trauma Registrar is to maintain the Trauma Registry Database which provides for the collection, storage and reporting of information about trauma patients including the facts related to the patient's injury event, severity, care, and outcome. SERAC Regional Emergency Response and Recovery Coordinator: This position was made possible through funding from the 2003 Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Hospital Bioterrorism and Disaster Funding. The primary mission of this position is coordination of regional disaster planning between hospitals, EMS, Public Health, Mental Health, and other agencies. Mark will also work to develop the region's SMAT II team.
