Election Day Blood Drive at PMH
10/15/2008
Pender Memorial Hospital, in partnership with the American Red Cross, will host a community blood drive on its campus on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. So, while you are exercising your civic duty to vote on Election Day, please also take the time to exercise your compassion by giving the gift of life.

Only five percent of eligible blood donors give blood, and supplies usually dip very low during the holiday season. If you want to help save a life, please contact Debbie Hardison at 910-259-5451 ext 271 to schedule your appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome. Please bring a photo ID.

Donors will be eligible to win a $1,000 gift card just in time for holiday shopping season.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
To give blood, you must be healthy, be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days) or given a donation of double red cells in the last 16 weeks (111 days). "Healthy" means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, "healthy" also means that you are being treated and the condition is under control.

Other aspects of each potential donor's health history are discussed as part of the donation process before any blood is collected. Each donor receives a brief examination during which temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood count (hemoglobin or hematocrit) are measured.
