Making Your Heart Happy with Healthy Food Choices
02/12/2009
In honor of National Heart Month, the Burgaw Diabetes Support Group will discuss making heart healthy food choices on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Heritage Place on 901 S. Walker St.

More than 65 percent of those with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke. People with diabetes have increased risk for serious health complications including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, blindness, nerve damage and kidney problems. However, by learning how to make good choices and manage the disease better, people with diabetes can reduce their risks significantly and live healthier, longer lives.

The support group is sponsored by Pender Memorial Hospital's Diabetes Education Department, and is free and open to the public. Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Nurse Maureen Drake leads the group.
