National Doctor's Day is March 30
04/22/2009
In recognition of National Doctor's Day on March 30, 2009, remember to say thanks to the tremendous doctors who enable Pender Memorial Hospital to meet its mission to provide quality primary healthcare to the citizens of Pender County and surrounding communities.

The physicians with credentials on the PMH medical staff are Connie Baker, Joseph Cooper, Larry Dashow (Chief of Staff), Linda Greenspan, Naseem Nasrallah, Michael Rallis, Brajendra Singh, Ellis Tinsley and James Worriax.

Complementing the medical staff's work are several physician groups with which the hospital contracts to provide much needed services: Dr. Walter Whitehurst and the physicians from Delaney Radiologists; the team of physicians from Eastern Carolina Emergency Physicians including doctors Robert Barefoot, Jr., Boris Berejan, Todd Boring, C. Bowers-Lee, J.J. Foutty and Mark Perez (Chief of Emergency Staff); as well as doctors Chris McKinney from Wilmington Pathology and Audrey Surak of Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

'Our physicians are important members of our team with whom we work day-in and day-out, and they each add a tremendous depth of talent to this hospital,' said David Long, administrator at Pender Memorial. 'Our physicians and surgeons work tirelessly to ensure that our patients have positive outcomes and that they receive very good care throughout every step of the process.'

According to the web site www.doctorsday.org, the first Doctor's Day observance was March 30, 1933. A Resolution Commemorating Doctor's Day was adopted by the United States House of Representatives in 1958. Following approval by Congress, on October 30, 1990, President George H. W. Bush signed S.J. RES. #366 (which became Public Law 101-473) designating March 30 as 'National Doctor's Day.'

Here's what some of our clinical managers had to say about our physicians.

LuAnn Stockton, Laboratory
'Dr. Christopher McKinney and Dr. Gregory Steinkraus demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism. They both go over and above to give us the technical support and special guidance we need as a small rural hospital. We think the world of them. They're always will to take the time to answer our questions.'

Chuck Mitchell, Radiology
'Delaney Radiology has been a valued member of the Pender Memorial team for many years. This community benefits greatly by having the multi-faceted team of radiologists on staff who interpret exams that are not only routine, but those of a complex nature as well. You need not look any further than the new radiology waiting room to see the level of commitment that we share with Delaney Radiology as they funded most of a recent remodel.'

Dawn Whitman, Acute Care Services Nurse Manager
"Our physicians are receptive to the information that our staff shares with them about our patients each day. This open flow of communication makes for a great working relationship between our physicians and the nursing staff. We could not ask for better doctors to work with."
