WILMINGTON - As October approaches, New Hanover Regional Medical Center's Foundation is placing the finishing touches on one of the year's most popular fundraisers, the 11th Annual Pink Ribbon Event. The event will take place on October 7 at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, Wrightsville Beach.

Since 1998, the Pink Ribbon events and donations have raised more than $850,000 and provided over 4,000 'Comfort Bags' to area women as they undergo treatment for cancer. The events also provide funding for uninsured women to receive mammographies through the Coastal Care Van and follow-up biopsies after a suspect screening is identified.

The Pink Ribbon events consist of a breakfast, lunch and dinner with special speakers at each meal. The lunch and dinner events are sold out however tables are still available for the breakfast event. The featured speakers will be local author Dana Sachs for breakfast and author Mark Childress for lunch and dinner.
