NHRMC Tower Renovation

New Hanover Regional Medical Center's patient tower is undergoing a transformation.  The tower is being upgraded aesthetically and operationally to provide patients and their families a more comfortable environment in which to visit and heal.

Patient Room Improvements

  • Private rooms and more personal space for families
  • New recliners and sleep sofas for comfortable places to sit and rest
  • Softer lighting, with indirect rather than fluorescent lights
  • New flooring, paint and wall units
  • New beds
  • Thermostats allowing patients to control the temperature in their room
  • Bedside computers for nurses to chart in close proximity
  • Wireless Internet access
  • Larger, frameless European showers make showers safer, more accessible
  • Quieter environment with carpeted halls and business centers away from patient rooms

Timeline

The renovation of the 40-year old tower began in September 2008.  The top two floors opened to patients on June 27 and 28, 2009.  Construction is continuing two floors at a time until expected completion in December 2010.
