09/16/2008

Jack Barto, CEO of New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Barbara Buechler, director of women's and children's services presented the parents of the first baby born in the Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital with a scholarship from NHRMC during a special presentation at 10:00 a.m. this morning.

The scholarship, a $5,000.00 529 account, was presented to Crystal Justice and her husband Ron with their new son Zachary Ryan Justice by their side. Zachary was born at approximately 10:45 a.m. on September 14. He will join his 9-year-old brother and 5-year-old sister when he returns home to Shallotte.

NHRMC also provided the same $5,000.00 529 scholarship account to the last baby born in the patient tower. The scholarship was presented to the mother, Catherine Astacio, before she was discharged September 15. Her daughter, Gabriella Lexus Alves can choose to use the scholarship at the school of her choice. The family was not able to join us for the presentation today.
