Each year, nearly half a million women die from cardiovascular disease. As 2006 chairperson Robin Harper, RN, stated, "Women can't afford to wait until symptoms appear. We need to empower them with knowledge very early on, so they can protect themselves against this deadly disease. The Red Dress Luncheon and Fashion Show proceeds are being used to fund outreach activities and health screenings through the Coastal Care Van. These free screenings will help identify women with risk factors so they can be proactive in protecting their health."
The 2009 Red Dress Luncheon and Fashion Show, chaired by Angie Jackson, was held February 6, 2009 at The Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, NC. Our Emcee was Ms. Chelsea Cooley, Miss USA 2005. Our featured speaker was Maggie McLamb, M.A., LPC. This event was part of the national "Heart Disease Awareness Month" activities to educate women about heart disease, currently the leading cause of death among women.
