Vascular Services
2212 S. 17th Street Wilmington, NC 28401 910-343-7000
The Vascular Services Program at NHRMC offers a full range of services to diagnose and treat diseases of the arteries, veins and lymphatic system outside the heart and intracranial vessels.
Leading the Way
The program includes a high-tech operating room dedicated to endovascular procedures. Opened in March 2001, it was the second such operating room in the state and there were fewer than 15 in the nation.
It has specialized X-ray equipment that allows trained surgeons to implant stents to repair weakened blood vessels.
Stents, the latest standard of care to repair damaged blood vessels or aneurysms, are devices that buttress a vessel, helping keep it open.
Patients who once had surgery requiring more than a week in the hospital and another six to eight weeks of recovery are going home the next day - and resuming their lifestyle within a couple of weeks.
New Hanover's dedication to the vascular program was recognized in the March 2004 edition of Business North Carolina magazine. It listed NHRMC as one of the Top 10 hospitals in the state for vascular services.
About Vascular Disease
Vascular disease outside the heart causes almost as much death and disability as heart disease, and more than any cancer, according to the America Vascular Association. Vascular disorders include aortic aneurysm, corotid artery disease and peripheral vascular disase.
